Laborers Serve First Responders and Support Second Chances After the Eaton Fire

January 22, 2025

On January 19, 2025, Laborers rose to serve our first responders battling the Eaton Fire at the Rose Bowl. SCDCL, our organizers along with Locals 300, 345, 724, and 1414, worked side by side to show our gratitude and feed the wildfire crews who protected and continue to protect our communities. SCDCL and Local 345 proudly covered the cost of the event to show gratitude and celebrate the efforts of the crews. Special thanks to @davilascuisine and @mariscosjalisco for providing incredible meals! We were honored to partner with Scott Budnick, Founder of ARC and CEO of One Community, LLC, with us. While he is widely known for producing movies like Old School and The Hangover, it’s his leadership and dedication in his roles with ARC and One Community that truly stand out as the most impactful. His dedication to creating opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals reflects SCDCL’s belief in the transformative power of second chances and the need to build pathways to a hopeful future as we re-build our cities affected by the fires.

We were also treated to special guest @emiliorivera48, star of Mayans M.C. and Sons of Anarchy, who came to show support and encourage the brave crews on the frontlines. The wildfire crews were overseen by Lieutenant Hill of the California Department of Corrections and the Growlersburg Conservation Camp, whose work provides critical training and opportunities for incarcerated individuals to contribute to their communities through fire response and conservation efforts and offer meaningful pathways towards reintegration and a better tomorrow.

This was about more than just food, it was about gratitude, hope and opportunity. SCDCL Business Manager, Jon Preciado and Business Manager of Local 724, Alex Aguilar, spoke directly to the wildfire crews about their futures, emphasizing that SCDCL is here to support anyone willing to commit to good, honest work and to help them build a brighter tomorrow.

Laborers rise to help. Together, we build stronger communities and better futures for our communities. We show up to show to the strength of compassion, the value of unity, and the belief that Laborers Rise, together!
