This past weekend, the Laborers Training School hosted its Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony, honoring the 2024 class of journeypersons, 786 strong, who have completed their training and are now ready to build California’s future with skill, safety, and union pride.
SCDCL Business Manager and Chairman of the Laborers Training & Retraining Trust Fund, Jon P. Preciado, took the opportunity to speak with Assemblymember Phillip Chen (California Assembly District 59) about the lasting value of apprenticeship and the strength of union labor in keeping high-road careers right here in California.
“Nobody does it like the Laborers!” says Assemblymember Chen and the impact of that statement could be felt throughout the event. With representatives from Locals 89, 220, 300, 585, 652, 783, 1184, and 1309 in attendance, the ceremony was a powerful reminder of what we build together—both in our infrastructure and in the lives of our members.
The graduates, now proud journeypersons, join a brotherhood and sisterhood that lifts one another up through solidarity, opportunity, and hard work. It’s not just about a job, it’s about a lifetime of stability, purpose, and pride.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024. The road ahead is wide open, and the Laborers are leading the way.
