We are proud to share the record-breaking success of the 28th Annual Mike Quevedo Sr. Scholarship Golf Tournament, held at the beautiful Indian Wells Golf Resort. This year’s event showcased the commitment of Laborers and our allies to empowering the next generation through education. This year’s tournament raised $513,250 in sponsorship contributions from 70 sponsors, including LIUNA locals, businesses, contractors, affiliates, and organizations.
Additionally, a raffle with over 65 prizes raised $23,301 for a total of $536,551 towards the Mike Quevedo Sr. Scholarship Fund, demonstrating the solidarity and generosity of our union community.
Since 2000, the Mike Quevedo Sr. Scholarship Fund has awarded 1,679 scholarships, totaling over $4.9 million in financial support to students across Southern California. This year alone, we achieved our biggest milestones:
· 138 scholarships awarded, the most in its history.
· A total of $710,500 in scholarships distributed in 2024.
· Scholarships ranging from $1,500 to the top 10 being awarded $11,000, with 64 students receiving $6,500 each and 59 students awarded $3,000 each.
· 74 scholarships granted to students had a GPA of 3.5 or higher, showing the academic excellence of the children raised by Laborers.
This annual tournament will continue to be a cornerstone of our efforts to create opportunities for the next generation. This is what it means to be part of our Union family—lifting each other up and building a brighter future. We’re excited to announce that we’re already looking ahead. Keep a lookout in March 2025 for the SCDCL Sporting Clay Shoot Tournament, where we’ll aim even higher to support the children of our Laborers. Together, we will continue to build opportunities for those who will lead us into tomorrow.
